Seventh Coast Guard District chief of staff, Capt. Richard Kenin presented the coveted Silver Lifesaving Medal award to Petty Officer 3rd Class John Rivera for the rescue of R&B artist Sean Kingston after his accident on a personal water craft on Memorial Day weekend, 2011. Rivera was off duty and on his personal boat near Miami Beach’s Star Island bridge and saw Kingston go under water after he struck a bridge on his personal watercraft. Rivera immediately jumped in and kept him afloat until additional help arrived. He was honored by colleagues during a ceremony at Coast Guard Air Station Miami.

Hopefully Sean looked out for him in another “special” way… *rubs palms together*

Hard to be a “supermodel” when you can’t walk straight…

Naomi Campbell does not approve of the title supermodel.

“I would never call myself that,” Campbell tells the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “I don’t have any superhuman powers.”
The 41-year-old stunner also expressed pleasant surprise that designers still want to work with her after so many years in the business.

“It’s always surprising to get asked to do a job I did 20 years ago,” she says when asked about her recent Roberto Cavalli campaign. “I’m very blessed, and I know that.”

Throughout the interview, Campbell reveals a much more warm and humble persona than is typically associated with her. Several friends attribute the change to the model’s sobriety. But while Campbell won’t comment on that development, she does explain of her past behavior, including assault charges, “Look, you have to make mistakes. That’s how you learn and that’s how the world works. I’ve made a few.”

So what does Campbell want to be called if not a supermodel?

“I like words like ‘transformation,’ ‘reinvention,’ and ‘chameleon,’” she says. “Because one word I don’t like is ‘predictable.’”

Oh Naomi, we’re quite sure that “supermodel” is not the worst thing someone has called you.

He’s puff, puff passing on the NFL.

The 34-year-old Williams told the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday he won’t be back to fulfill the second year of a contract he signed in August. Playing as a backup to Ray Rice this year, Williams ran for 444 yards and scored two touchdowns.

He also became the 26th player in NFL history to reach 10,000 yards rushing, reaching the plateau in the season finale at Cincinnati.

“The NFL has been an amazing page in this chapter of my life,” Williams said. “I pray that all successive adventures offer me the same potential for growth, success and most importantly, fun. … As for what’s next, I am excited about all the opportunities ahead — continuing my education, running The Ricky Williams Foundation and whatever other opportunities present themselves.”

This is the third time Williams has left the NFL. The first time he left was because was suspended for violating the NFL’s drug policy. Instead of taking the suspension, he bolted to smoke his funny cigarettes in peace. Then a year later, he went to Canada to play football and smoke more kush.

So, we’re imagining he found a nice bag to enjoy this year…or enough peyote to make an elephant think it can fly. Either way, salute to one of the best pothead athletes of all time!

Does Daddy Hov need to be a little bit more charitable?

Jay-Z calls himself the best rapper alive, and he’s made a cool half billion dollars off his talent — but when it comes to giving money to the charity he founded, he’s recently been more of a nickel-and-dime kind of guy.

The hip-hop artist gave just $6,431 to his own charity in 2010, a year in which he earned an estimated $63 million, according to tax records for the Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund examined by The Daily.

His superstar wife, Beyoncé, made in the neighborhood of $87 million, according to a Forbes estimate — yet she didn’t give her husband’s foundation a dime.

But the charity is hardly an afterthought for the rapper, formerly known as Shawn Carter. He is scheduled to perform the first of two benefit concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York City tonight, splitting the proceeds between his charity and the United Way of New York. Tickets range from $150 to $15,000. Jay-Z is rapping for free, yet it remains to be seen how many crispy Benjamins he’ll personally contribute.

While Jay may not have donated his own money, he just finished a freaking show at Carnegie Hall! These people need to hop off his sack and his wallet. Maybe he should get his Illuminati friends to get these busters out of his pockets.

This morning Karen Handel, Susan G. Komen’s controversial (as of last week) Vice President of Public Policy, announced that she would resign from the breast cancer charity and would decline any offer of a severance package.

Following the highly charged week in which Komen pulled (and ultimately reinstated) funding to a handful of Planned Parenthood affiliates, this resignation has been, to watchers of the situation, a long time coming. Handel, a long-time pro-life and anti-abortion advocate, is thought to be the catalyst for breaking Komen’s long-time partnership with Planned Parenthood.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution got its hands on Handel’s resignation letter to CEO Nancy Brinker in the wake of the scandal, in which Handel refuses responsibility for the decision and calls the reaction a “gross mischaracterization of strategy.” Cries have been made for Handel’s dismissal for the past seven days, so there is at least something to be said about her exit strategy. But before we commend Handel for stepping down of her own volition, AJC notes there might be more self-serving reasons for her decision: taking a severance deal might have bound her to a non-disclosure agreement. As things stand, Handel has scheduled a press conference for later this afternoon.

When will the baby daddy drama end!?

The Los Angeles County of Department of Children and Family Services is recommending that Halle Berry’s ex-boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, have another adult present during his custodial time with their three-year-old daughter, Nahla.

According to Radaronline:

“Case workers are recommending that a nanny be present with Gabriel during his visitation times. Halle’s nanny had been with Nahla when Gabriel had his custodial time from noon until she went to sleep. However, after the alleged incident between the nanny and Gabe, that hasn’t been in place, and he has been alone with Nahla.

“It will be up to the judge to implement the recommendations. Gabriel is fighting having another person with him, he feels that Halle is trying to make his time with their daughter as uncomfortable as possible,” the insider says.

“The report does recommend that Halle and Gabriel attend parenting classes together, so that they can co-parent Nahla more harmoniously. The classes will give them the tools to work through their issues, and hopefully become better parents for it.”

Meanwhile, “Gabriel Aubry is unlikely to be charged with any crime in relation to the police report the nanny filed,” a law enforcement source revealed.

SMH! The only one who’s going to be really suffering is poor Nahla in all of this… What do you think of the all the drama?

Menounos is most known for being on the show “Extra,” but she’s also a huge Patriots fan. So as part of a bet with former 106 & Park host, A.J., she had to rock a Giants bikini. If A.J. lost he would have had to wear a Patriots cheerleader outfit.

Score one for the constitution.

We just received the 9th Circuit’s opinion in Perry v. Brown that Proposition 8, the 2008 voter-enacted ban on marriage equality in California, is unconstitutional. In addition, the appeals panel ruled that the proponents of Prop 8 did have standing to pursue their appeal of Judge Walker’s decision striking down the marriage ban, and upheld District Court Judge Ware’s decision denying a stay to throw out Walker’s ruling because he is gay. The ruling on constitutionality was divided on an 2-1 vote, with Judges Stephen Reinhardt and Michael Hawkins voting to strike Prop 8 down, and Judge N. Randy Smith voting to uphold the ban. The ruling regarding standing and the motion to throw out Judge Walker’s decision was a unanimous 3-0 vote.

In his Aug. 4, 2010, decision, which the 9th Circuit upheld today, District Court Judge Vaughn Walker struck down Prop 8 as unconstitutional under both the Due Process and Equal Protection clauses of the U.S. Constitution’s 14th Amendment. In his opinion, Judge Walker presented 80 findings of fact regarding same-sex marriage, which included discussions about the immutability of sexual orientation, the ability of same-sex couples to be good parents, and the inequality of providing LGBT couples with civil unions as opposed to full marriages. These findings of fact are highly significant, because while appellate courts can overturn a lower court’s decision based on its findings of law, they usually defer to those courts’ findings of fact. Today’s ruling affirms Judge Walker’s findings of fact, meaning that they can but used in the future in other trial cases in the 9th Circuit that deal with LGBT rights.

Well, we’re happy to see some equal rights being given out in this mofo. We’re sure there is going to be a really nice, big celebration coming soon. Ding dong, Prop 8 is dead forever.

Josh was angry… what a coward:

If he couldn’t have his sons, no one could.

A chilling voicemail has surfaced revealing the final words of disturbed dad Josh Powell just 20 minutes before he butchered his two sons with a hatchet and then incinerated them and himself in a gas explosion on Sunday.

“I am not able to live without my sons, and I’m not able to go on anymore,” Powell says in the message to his family, which was obtained by ABC News on Tuesday.

“I’m sorry to everyone I’ve hurt. Goodbye.”

Although remorseful on the recording, authorities believe Powell meticulously planned the horrific murder-suicide, donating his sons’ toys to charity over the weekend and sending last-minute emails to family telling them where to find his money.

Investigators on Monday found two five gallon cans of gasoline inside the rubble of Powell’s Graham home, along with a small ax, which cops say Powell plunged into the heads and necks of his two sons, Charlie, 7, and Braden, 5, before igniting the blaze.

“This was definitely a deliberate, planned-out event,” Pierce County Sheriff’s Detective Ed Troyer said.

An autopsy report showed the three died of smoke inhalation, but the chopping wounds contributed to the boys’ deaths.

Investigators haven’t determined what specifically drove Powell to kill his sons.

Friends and family have provided a portrait of a troubled soul who snapped under intense scrutiny related to his wife Susan’s disappearance in 2009.
